In HONOLULU, Hawaii last June, Richard Pyle was scuba diving in the Pacific Ocean. He found a tiny pink fish, about the size of a toy race car. It had a bluish-red spot on its fin. Pyle is a marine biologist that knows all about the sea. He had never seen this creatures before so he went in for a closer look. Richard had just found a new species of fish.Pyle decided the spot looked like the symbol of Barack Obama's 2008 campaign for president.President Obama is from Hawaii. His home state has not named anything in his honor yet. So, Pyle decided to name the fish after him. The fish has been official named Tosanoides obama. Since June, scientists have found just five Obama fish there. Scientists say most of the fish live below 300 feet. Divers cannot safely explore under 300 feet. That could be part of the reason scientists are only now beginning to find them.
