At the end of the passage, the author says that the chance of a large asteroid hitting Earth in our lifetime is "very, very, very small.” Right now, the government funds (pays for) scientists to keep track of asteroids near Earth. Because it is so unlikely that an asteroid will ever destroy the Earth, do you think our government should fund this research on asteroids? Or is this a waste of money? Be sure to use information from the passage to support your answer.

I think our government should do research on these asteroids. Reading from this story, asteroids are very dangerous and can destroy many buildings even if its the size of a house. Doing research on these asteroids can be very useful and not just for survival reasons.
