Refugee is about 3 kids who have many troubles in their own country. They have to change how they live their life, one of the kids has to move to a different country just because of his religion, and a kid who tries to do anything he can to stay in invisible, because he could be killed. Josef Landau is one of the main characters in this story alongside another 2. Josef is a Jewish boy who is living in Nazi Germany in the 1930's. Josef’s father, Aaron Landau was taken away from his home and family, because he broke a law, which was to not practice any religion in Germany. Aaron, Josef’s dad, was put into a concentration camp in somewhere in Germany.
The Landau family had been reunited in Hamburg,Germany when their father had been released from the concentration camp. That was the first part of Josef’s story. Second kid, is Isabel Fernandez. Isabel struggled to live her life, because her father was put in jail for trying to leave Cuba, at this time Cuba had a law where you couldn’t leave the country if you were living there. Isabel would play her trumpet on the streets to make money for her mom and grandfather. The only people who would give her money was the tourist who came to visit the country. Her friend, and her friend’s father were building a boat so they can leave the country to go to New York and start a new life there. Cuba couldn’t get enough food for people, because the Soviet Union had fallen, and that was their only way of food. With riots and unrest plaguing her country, she and her family set out on a raft, hoping to find safety in America. Mahmoud is a Syrian boy in the year 2015. With his homeland torn apart by violence and destruction, he and his family begin a long journey towards Europe. All 3 kids have to go on journeys, and they all want to escape from dangers.
